Speaker 2:

Let's read this chapter 4 and let's read the priest shall then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting.

Speaker 2:

The rest of the bull's blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting. He shall remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering, the fat that covers the inner part or is connected to them, both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the covering of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys, just as the fat is removed from the ox sacrificed as a fellowship offering. Then the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering. The height of the bull and all its flesh, as well as the head and legs, the inner parts and the offal, that is all the rest of the bull. He must take outside the camp to a place ceremonially clean where the ashes are thrown, and burn it in a wood fire on the ash heap. If the whole Israelite community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, even though the community is unaware of the matter, they are guilty. When they become aware of the sin they committed. The assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and presented before the tent of meeting. The elders of the community are to lay their hands on the bull's head before the Lord and the bull shall be slaughtered before the Lord. Then the anointed priest is to take some of the bull's blood into the tent of meeting. He shall dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle it before the Lord seven times, in front of the curtain. He is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. The rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting. He shall remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar and do with this bull just as he did with the bull for the sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for them and they will be forgiven. Then he shall take the bull outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull.

Speaker 2:

This is the sin offering for the community when a leader sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord, his God. He is guilty when he is made aware of the sin he committed. He must bring as his offering a male goat without defect. He is to lay his hand on the goat's head and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the Lord. It is a sin offering. Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He shall burn all the fat of the altar as he burned the fat of the fellowship offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for the man's sin and he will be forgiven.

Speaker 2:

If a member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, he is guilty.

Speaker 2:

When he is made aware of the sin he committed, he must bring as his offering for the sin he committed a female goat without defect.

Speaker 2:

He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. Then the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. In this way, the priest will make atonement for him and he will be forgiven If he brings a lamb as his sin offering. He is to bring a female without defect. He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it for a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar on top of the offerings made to the Lord by fire. In this way, the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed and he will be forgiven.

Speaker 1:

The last time we were together, we looked at the peace slash fellowship offerings. Today we will look at the sin offerings. The main point of this chapter is that the people of God and the place of God need to be free of sin. There are 35 verses in this chapter that we will break down in five sections. Section 1, we are introduced to the sin offering. We see this in verses 1 through 2.

Speaker 1:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying speak to the sons of Israel. So that's our introduction. We know, we see who is talking. The Lord spoke to Moses and we see who is talking to Moses the Lord. Section 2, the high priest sin offering. We look at this in verses 3 through 12. We actually jump back to verse 2. So let's just say 2 through 12.

Speaker 1:

Speak to the sons of Israel, saying if a person sins, unintentionally in any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done and commits any of them, if the anointed priest sin so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord a bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed. And he shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the Lord and he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull and slay the bull before the Lord. Then the anointed priest is to take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the tent of meeting and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the Lord in front of the veil of the sanctuary. The priest shall also put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of a fragrant incense which is before the Lord in the tent of meeting, and all the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. He shall remove from it all the fat of the bull of the sin offering, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat which is on the entrails and the two kidneys, with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins and the lobe of the liver, which he shall remove with the kidneys, just as it is removed from the ox of the sacrifice of peace offering, and the priest is to offer them up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering. But the height of the bull and its flesh, with his head and his legs and his entrails and his refuse, that is all the rest of the bull. He is to bring out to a clean place outside the camp where the ashes are poured out and burn it on the wood with fire where the ashes are poured out. It shall be burned.

Speaker 1:

Now I want to make sure that we didn't speak past verse three. If the leader sins, he can bring guilt on the people. Just in case, let's go back and look at verse three again. If the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord a bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed. Now remember how we started this all, when I said that the Lord's place of worship and his people have to be free of sin. So even the priest has to be free of sin.

Speaker 1:

Now we don't have priests anymore, but let's take this into our time. Your pastor has to be free of sin. It doesn't mean that he is sinless, because we all know that no one is free from sin. No one goes around their whole life without sinning. No one goes without having to repent. But there's a difference between living in sin and sinning. This is more referring to living in sin. Your pastor cannot have these things on him, but then stand in front of his people and they go. Well, you know we all fall short of God's glory, or you know we all make mistakes. No, when you are a man of God, what did James say? Be careful of those of you who want to teach, because you will be held to a higher standard. The Lord holds his man to a higher standard.

Speaker 1:

Let's move on to section three, the sin offering of the congregation. We see this in verses 13 through 21. But before we get there, I want to I want to point out something. The word congregation in verse 13, where we're going to start that, refers to the people who had legal responsibilities. The word assembly refers to all the people. So I want to put that in your ear as we get started.

Speaker 1:

Sin offering of the congregation versus 13 through 21. Now, if the whole congregation of Israel commits error and a matter escapes the notice of the assembly and they commit any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done and they become guilty when the sin which they have committed becomes known, then the assembly shall offer a bull of the herd for a sin offering and bring it before the 10th meeting. Then the orders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the Lord and the bull shall be slain before the Lord. Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the blood of the bull to the 10th meeting and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord in front of the veil, and he shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar which is before the Lord in the 10th meeting, and all the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the doorway of the 10th meeting, and he shall remove his fat from it and offer it up in smoke on the altar. He shall also do with the bull, just as he did with the bull of sin offering, thus he shall do with it. So the priest shall make a tolement for them and they shall be forgiven. Then he is to bring out the bull to a place outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly. Now remember, notice everything that has to be done and has to be done in these orders and to God's specifications. When God gives a command, that's how he wants it followed. He didn't say do this your way, he wants you to do it his way.

Speaker 1:

Luke 4, the leader's sin offering. We see this in verses 22 through 26. When a leader sins and in an inattentionally does any of all the things which the Lord, god, has commanded not to be done and he becomes guilty if his sin, which he has committed, is made known to him. He shall bring for his offering a goat, a male without defect, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the male goat and slay it into place where they slay the burnt offering before the Lord. It is a sin offering. Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and the rest of his blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering, and all this fat he shall offer up in smoke on the altar, as in the case of the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings. Thus the priest shall make a toldment for him in regard to his sin. He shall be forgiven. Now the leader in this section is a tribal leader, and that's what it's referring to.

Speaker 1:

Now we move on to section 5, the sin offering for the individual. Now we're going to break this down into two parts. First we will focus on the offering of the goat. We see this in verses 27 through 31. Now, if any one of the common people sins unintentionally in doing any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done and becomes guilty. If his sin, which he has committed, is made known to him, then he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without defect, for his sin which he has committed, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slay the sin offering. At the place of the burnt offering, the priest shall take some of his blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and all the rest of his blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. Then he shall remove all his fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings, and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma to the Lord. Thus the priest shall make a toldment for him and he shall be forgiven. So the beautiful thing that we notice in these verses is excuse me, and he shall be forgiven.

Speaker 1:

The second part is the offering of the lamb.

Speaker 1:

We see this in verses 32 through 35.

Speaker 1:

But if he brings a lamb as his offering for his sin offering, he shall bring it a female without defect, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slay it for his sin offering in the place where they slay the burnt offering. Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and all the rest of his blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. Then he shall remove all his fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the sacrifice of peace offering, and the priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar, on the offerings by fire to the Lord. Thus, the priest shall make a toldment for him in regard to his sin, which he has committed, and he shall be forgiven Once again. The beautiful part is and he shall be forgiven. Now, don't get this, you know. The thing that we need to understand here is that in this time it was a lot of blood that had to be shed to be to for sin to be forgiven, but there was a better sacrifice that was going to be coming a few thousand years later, and we thank the Lord for Jesus Christ every day. All right people. That brings us to the end of Leviticus, chapter four, I hope that you enjoyed the chapter. Remember, go to wherever you're here in this podcast and do your thing over there. That's all for now, god bless.
