Speaker 1:

Now we're going to get right back into it. Today we'll be covering Leviticus, chapters 6 and 7. So open your Bible to Leviticus, chapter 6 and 7. Today we will be covering these two chapters as they tie in with each other. We're going to bring our reader in. He's going to go through each chapter 6 and 7, read along with him and then we will come back and break it down. Leviticus 6 and 7. Let's read.

Speaker 2:

Leviticus 6. The Lord said to Moses If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving his neighbor about something entrusted to him or left in his care or stolen, or if he cheats him, or if he finds lost property and lies about it, or if he swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that people may do, when he thus sins and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to him or the lost property he found or for whatever it was he swore falsely about. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day he presents his guilt offering. And as a penalty, he must bring to the priest, that is, to the Lord, his guilt offering, a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way, the priest will make atonement for him before the Lord and he will be forgiven any of these things he did that made him guilty. The Lord said to Moses Give Aaron and his sons this command. These are the regulations for the burnt offering. The burnt offering is to remain on the altar hearth throughout the night, till morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar. The priest shall then put on his linen clothes, with linen undergarments next to his body, and shall remove the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar and place them beside the altar. Then he is to take off these clothes and put on others and carry the ashes outside the camp till place that is ceremonially clean. The fire on the altar must be kept burning. It must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously. It must not go out.

Speaker 2:

These are the regulations for the grain offering. Aaron's sons are to bring it before the Lord in front of the altar. The priest is to take a handful of fine flour and oil, together with all the incense on the grain offering, and burn the memorial portion on the altar as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. Aaron and his son shall eat the rest of it, but it is to be eaten without yeast in a holy place. They are to eat it in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. It must not be baked with yeast. I have given it as their share of the offerings made to me by fire. Like the sin offering and the guilt offering, it is most holy. All male descendants of Aaron may eat it. It is his regular share of the offerings made to the Lord by fire. For the generations to come, whatever touches them will become holy.

Speaker 2:

The Lord also said to Moses this is the offering Aaron and his son are to bring to the Lord on the day he is anointed A tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. Prepare it with oil and a griddle, bring it well mixed and present the grain offering broken in pieces as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. The son who is to succeed him as anointed priest shall prepare it. It is the Lord's regular share and is to be burned completely. Every grain offering of a priest shall be burned completely. It must not be eaten. The Lord said to Moses Say to Aaron and his sons these are the regulations for the sin offering.

Speaker 2:

The sin offering is to be slaughtered before the Lord, in the place. The burnt offering is slaughtered. It is most holy. The priest who offers it shall eat it. It is to be eaten in the holy place in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. Whatever touches any of the flesh will become holy, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment you must wash it. In a holy place, the clay pot the meat is cooked in must be broken, but if it is cooked in a bronze pot, the pot is to be scoured and rinsed with water. Any male in a priest's family may eat it. It is most holy. But any sin offering whose blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the holy place must not be eaten. It must be burned.

Speaker 1:

All right, actually, I apologize people. I did say that I was going to bring the reader in. We were going to go through chapters six and seven, but actually we're going to do what? I'm sorry, we just finished reading six. We're going to break down the parts of six and then we'll just go into seven. That way you weren't reading two chapters in a row. Okay, the last time we were together, no, we went over the law of guilt offerings.

Speaker 1:

Today we are going through two chapters, as I mentioned earlier, leviticus six and seven. Now, the reason that we are doing this is because the first seven chapters excuse me, the first seven verses of this chapter tie end with chapters one through five. In chapter six, versus one through seven, we see that the Lord is still addressing the sons of Israel. Then, when we get to chapter six, verse eight, through all the way through chapter seven, we see that that is more addressed to Aaron and his son. So that is the reason why I'm doing these two chapters together. But we're going to start out with the first seven chapters of verse six because, like I said, those chapters actually if you read Leviticus, chapters one through chapter six, verse seven, they tie in together. So let's get started.

Speaker 1:

In verses one through seven of chapter six we have a continuation of chapter five and we look at the deliberate sin against a neighbor. Look at verses one through seven of chapter six. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying when a person sins and acts unfaithfully against the Lord and deceives his companion in regard to a deposit or security, this person itself has no authority over mitzom. The Lord broke the law and nine dragon damages his entrusted to him, or through robbery, or if he has extorted from his companion or has found what was lost and lied about it and swarmed falsely so that he sends in regard to any one of the things a man may do, then it shall be when he sends, it becomes guilty that he shall restore what he took by robbery or what he got by extortion, or the deposit which was entrusted to him or the lost thing which he found or anything about which he swarmed falsely. He shall make restitution for it in full and add to it one-fifth more. He shall give it to one to whom it belongs. On the day he presents his guilt offering, then he shall bring to the priest his guilt offering to the Lord, a ram without defect from the flock, according to your evaluation, for a guilt offering and the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord and he shall be forgiven for any one of the things which he may have done to occur guilt.

Speaker 1:

So we see, as we saw in the previous chapters, this is addressing sins. These are more lost and this was more focused on more deliberate sin. By deliberate sin you saw some of the sins that they talk about in there. You know, when you steal something, I mean that's a deliberate sin. You know that you are trying to steal something from someone, from a store, property that isn't yours. It's something deliberate that you're doing. It's not something that you do by accident.

Speaker 1:

Now we will move on to the rest of this study and I have broken this study down into nine sections. Section one the priest's disposal of the burnt offering. We see this in verses eight through thirteen of chapter six. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying command Aaron and his sons. Remember I said that the rest of this chapter, from verse eight of chapter six through chapter seven, is more focused on Aaron and his sons.

Speaker 1:

Command Aaron and his sons saying this is the law for the burnt offering. The burnt offering itself shall remain on the earth on the altar all night until the morning and the fire on the altar is to be kept burning on it. The priest is to put on his linen robe and he shall put on excuse me, put on under garments next to his flesh and he shall take up the ashes to which the fire reduces the burnt offering on the altar and place them beside the altar. Then he shall take off his garments and put on other garments and carry the ashes outside the camp to a clean place and the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out. But the priest shall burn wood on it every morning and he shall lay out the burnt offering on it and offer up and smoke the fat portions of the piece offering on it. There shall be kept burning continually on the altar. It is not to go out. Remember, these things had to be done exactly as the Lord said. The Lord didn't say depends on how you feel it was going on that day. These things had to be done exactly as he says.

Speaker 1:

Section two the priest's disposal of the grain offering. We see this in verses 14 through 18 of chapter six. Now, this is the law of grain offering. The sons of Aaron shall present it before the Lord in front of the altar. Then one of them shall lift up from it a handful of the fine fire of the grain offering, with its oil and all the incense that is on the grain offering, and he shall offer it up in smoke on the altar A soothing aroma, as its memorial offering to the Lord. And what is left of it Aaron and his sons are to eat. It shall be eaten as unleavened cakes in the holy place. They are to eat it in the court of the tent of meeting. They shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as their share from my offerings of fire. It is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. Every male among the sons of Aaron may eat it. It is a permanent ordinance throughout your generations. From the offerings by fire to the Lord, whoever touches them shall become consecrated. However, the Levites do not have anything broken up to them. So that is why the Lord is saying that this is an offering to Aaron and his sons, because there were things that were given to the other 11 tribes that were not given to them. So this was a way for them to maintain and survive.

Speaker 1:

Section 3. The High Priest, handling of the Grain Offering. We see this in verses 19-23. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying this is the offering which Aaron and his sons are to present to the Lord on the day when he is anointed. A tenth of an ephi of flower has a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening. It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle. When it is well stirred, you shall bring it. You shall present the grain offering in baked pieces as a soothing aroma to the Lord, and the anointed priest, who will be in his place among his sons, shall offer it by a permanent ordinance. It shall be entirely offered up in smoke to the Lord. So every grain offering of the priest shall be burned entirely. It shall not be eaten. So remember very specific, these things had to be very specifically done and we saw word for word with the Lord when it done there.

Speaker 1:

Section four the priest's disposal of the sin offering.

Speaker 1:

We see this in verses 24 through 30 in chapter six.

Speaker 1:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying speak to Aaron and his sons saying this is the law of the sin offering In the place where the burnt offering is slain.

Speaker 1:

The sin offering shall be slain before the Lord. It is most holy. The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eating in a holy place, in the court of the 10th meeting. Anyone who touches its flesh shall become consecrated, and when any of its blood splashes on a garment in a holy place, you shall watch what will splash on it. Also, the earthenware vessel in which it was boiled shall be broken, and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, it shall be scorched and rinsed in water. Every male among the priests may eat of it. It is most holy, but no sin offering of which any other blood is brought into the 10th of meeting to make atonement in the holy place shall be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. Amen. And we see that the Lord gives more specific directions of what Aaron and his sons were to do. Okay, now we are going to move into chapter seven. We're going to bring our reader back in and go through chapter seven.

Speaker 2:

The Book of Leviticus, leviticus 7. These are the regulations for the guilt offering, which is most holy. The guilt offering is to be slaughtered in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered and its blood is to be sprinkled against the altar on all sides. All its fat shall be offered the fat tail and the fat that covers the inner parts, both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the covering of the liver, which is to be removed with the kidneys. The priest shall burn them on the altar as an offering made to the Lord by fire. It is a guilt offering. Any male in a priest's family may eat it, but it must be eaten in a holy place. It is most holy. The same law applies to both the sin offering and the guilt offering. They belong to the priest who makes atonement with them. The priest who offers a burnt offering for anyone may keep it high for himself. Every grain offering baked in an oven or cooked in a pan or on a griddle belongs to the priest who offers it, and every grain offering, whether mixed with oil or dry, belongs equally to all the sons of Aaron. These are the regulations for the fellowship offering a person may present to the Lord. If he offers it as an expression of thankfulness, then along with this thank offering, he used to offer cakes of bread made without yeast and mixed with oil, wafers made without yeast and spread with oil, and cakes of fine flour well needed and mixed with oil. Along with his fellowship offering of thanksgiving, he is to present an offering with cakes of bread made with yeast. He used to bring one of each kind as an offering, a contribution to the Lord. It belongs to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the fellowship offerings.

Speaker 2:

The meat of his fellowship offering of thanksgiving must be eaten on the day it is offered. He must leave none of it till morning. If, however, his offering is the result of a vow or is a free will offering, the sacrifice shall be eaten on the day he offers it, but anything left over may be eaten on the next day. Any meat of the sacrifice left over till the third day must be burned up. If any meat of the fellowship offering is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted. It will not be credited to the one who offered it, for it is impure. The person who eats any of it will be held responsible.

Speaker 2:

Meat that touches anything ceremonially unclean must not be eaten. It must be burned up. As for other meat, anyone ceremonially clean may eat it. But if anyone who is unclean eats any meat of the fellowship offering belonging to the Lord, that person must be cut off from his people. If anyone touches something unclean, whether human uncleanness or an unclean animal, or any unclean, detestable thing, and then eats any of the meat of the fellowship offering belonging to the Lord, that person must be cut off from his people.

Speaker 2:

The Lord said to Moses Say to the Israelites Do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats. The fat of an animal found dead or torn by wild animals may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it. Anyone who eats the fat of an animal from which an offering by fire may be made to the Lord must be cut off from his people. And wherever you live, you must not eat the blood of any bird or animal. If anyone eats blood, that person must be cut off from his people. The Lord said to Moses Say to the Israelites Anyone who brings a fellowship offering to the Lord is to bring part of it as his sacrifice to the Lord With his own hands.

Speaker 2:

He is to bring the offering made to the Lord by fire.

Speaker 2:

He is to bring the fat together with the breast and wave the breast before the Lord as a wave offering.

Speaker 2:

The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.

Speaker 2:

You are to give the right thigh of your fellowship offerings to the priest as a contribution. The son of Aaron, who offers the blood and the fat of the fellowship offering, shall have the right thigh as his share From the fellowship offerings of the Israelites. I have taken the breast that is waved and the thigh that is presented and have given them to Aaron, the priest, and his sons as their regular share from the Israelites. This is the portion of the offering made to the Lord by fire that were allotted to Aaron and his sons on the day they were presented to serve the Lord as priests. On the day they were anointed, the Lord commanded that the Israelites give this to them as their regular share for the generations to come. These, then, are the regulations for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering and the fellowship offering which the Lord gave Moses on Mount Sinai on the day he commanded the Israelites to bring their offerings to the Lord in the desert of Sinai.

Speaker 1:

Alright, now we will break down chapter 7 and we will pick it up with section 5 of 9. The priest's disposal of the guilt offering. We see this in verses 1-10 of chapter 7. Now, this is the law of the guilt offering. It is most holy in the place where they slay the burnt offering. They are to slay the guilt offering and he shall sprinkle his blood around on the altar. Then he shall offer from it all his fat, the fat tail and the fat that covers the entrails and the two kidneys, with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins and the lobe on the liver. He shall remove with the kidneys and the priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar as an offering by fire to the Lord. It is a guilt offering. Every male among the priests may eat of it. It shall be eaten in the holy place. It is most holy. You see, who is to eat of it? Every male among the priests. The guilt offering is like the sin offering. There is one law for them. The priest who makes a tome with it shall have it. Also, the priest who presents any man's burnt offering. That priest shall have for himself the skin of the burnt offering which he has presented. Likewise, every grain offering that is baked in the oven and everything prepared in a pan or on a griddle shall belong to the priest who presents it, and every grain offering mixed with oil or dry shall belong to all the sons of Aaron, to all alike. Once again, more specific directions that are given and to be followed.

Speaker 1:

Section six the disposal of the fellowship offering. We see this in verses 11 through 21. Now, this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings which shall be presented to the Lord. If he offers it by way of thanksgiving, then along with the sacrifice of thanksgiving, he shall offer unleavened cakes mixed with oil and unleavened wafer spread with oil, and cakes of will stir, fine flour mixed with oil. With the sacrifice of his peace offering. For thanksgiving, he shall present his offering with cakes of leavened bread, and of this he shall present one of every offering as a contribution to the Lord. It shall belong to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings.

Speaker 1:

Now, as for the flesh of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving peace offering, it shall be eating on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it over until the morning. Very specific had to be eating that day, no leftovers. But if the sacrifice of his offering is a votive or a free will offering, it shall be eating on the day that he offers his sacrifice and on the next day which is left or it may be eaten, but what is left over from the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burned with fire. So if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offering shall ever be eating on the third day, he who offers it shall not be accepted and it shall not be reckoned to his benefit. It shall be an offensive thing and the person who eats of it shall bear his iniquity. Also, the flesh that touches anything unclean shall not be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. As for other flesh, anyone who is clean may eat such flesh. But the person who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings which belongs to the Lord in his uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from his people. Very, very specific. And when anyone touches anything unclean rather human uncleanness, or an unclean animal or any unclean, detestable thing, in the ease of the flesh or the sacrifice of peace offerings which belong to the Lord, that person shall be cut off from his people. Very clear that you were not supposed to eat those offerings which belong to the Lord.

Speaker 1:

Section seven the law that concerns eating fat and blood. We see this in verses 22 through 27. Then the Lord spoke to Moses Speak to the sons of Israel, saying you shall not eat any fat from an ox, a sheep or a goat specific animals. Also, the fat of an animal which dies and the fat of an animal torn by beasts may be put to any other use, but you must certainly not eat it. Very, very clear. If it was torn apart by a beast or a died, you were not to eat it. For whoever eats the fat of the animal from which an offering by fire is offered to the Lord, even a person who eats, shall be cut from his people. And you are not to eat any blood, either of bird or animal, in any of your dwellings. Any person who eats any blood, even that person, shall be cut off from his people.

Speaker 1:

Now, when they are talking about not eating of any blood, they're talking about the blood that is left in an animal. Now, for those of you who are hunters or you live near a hunter, if you ever saw when they go deer hunting and you see that they hang a deer by its hind legs and they leave it upside down. I think they do it for like a day or so, I'm not exactly sure you hunters would know. The reason for that is is that they're draining all the blood out of the animal. So when they eat the deer, there is no blood in the animal. Now there are people who think that, well, I don't eat meat because that red stuff I see in there is that is not blood. The blood is drained completely out of the animal. They do the same thing with a cow. If you eat, you know, give beef from a butcher. The cow is hung out for all the blood to dry out and they don't butcher the animal until all the blood is out. So that is what this is referring to here. Now, if you were to eat of the blood, that would be that you are eating the animal where the blood was not drained out.

Speaker 1:

Okay, we will move on to section eight, the law of the share of the fellowship offer. We see this in verses 28 through 36. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying "'Speak to the sons of Israel saying "'He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offerings "'to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord "'from the sacrifice of his peace offerings'. "'his own hands are to bring offerings by fire to the Lord. "'he should bring the fat with the breast, "'that the breast may be presented as a wave offering "'before the Lord, "'and the priest shall offer up the fat in smoke on the altar, "'but the breast shall belong to Aaron and his sons'". You got that? The fat is going on the altar, but the breast that's the good meat belongs to Aaron and his sons, "'and he shall give the right thigh to the priest "'as a contribution from the sacrifices "'of your peace offerings, "'the one among the sons of Aaron "'who offers the blood of the peace offerings, "'and the fat shall be his as his portion. "'for I have taken the breast of the wave offering "'and the thigh of the contribution from the sons of Israel "'from the sacrifices of their peace offerings "'and have given them to Aaron, the priest, "'and to his sons as their due forever. "'from the sons of Israel' Remember, they don't have a land where they can go out and just get animals themselves. "'these are the Levites. This is why this is given to them. "'this is that which is consecrated to Aaron, "'and that which is consecrated to his sons, "'from the offerings by fire to the Lord "'In that day, when he presented them to serve, "'as priests to the Lord, these the Lord had commanded "'to be given them from the sons of Israel "'in the day that he anointed them? "'it is their due forever, throughout their generations'".

Speaker 1:

Then we come to section nine, the law summarized. We see this in verses 37 through 38. This is the law of the burned offering, the grain offering and the sin offering and the guilt offering and the ordination offering and the sacrifice of peace, offerings which the Lord commanded Moses at Mount Sinai in the day that he commanded the sons of Israel to present their offerings to the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai. Now that brings us to the end of Leviticus, chapters six through seven. We see there that we're more lost, given at more things that the Lord expected to be done and obeyed to the T.
