Speaker 1:

Thank you for joining me. I hope that you all are doing well. Open your Bible to Leviticus, chapter 8. The title of today's lesson is the Consecration of Aaron and His Sons, leviticus, chapter 8. And let's read Leviticus 8.

Speaker 2:

The Lord said to Moses Bring Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bowl for the sin offering, the two rams and the basket containing bread made without yeast, and gathered the entire assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Speaker 2:

Moses did as the Lord commanded him and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the tent of meeting. Moses said to the assembly this is what the Lord has commanded to be done. Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them with water. He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him. He also tied the ephod to him by its skilfully woven waistband so it was fastened on him. He placed the breast piece on him and put the orem and the thumen in the breast piece. Then he placed the turban on Aaron's head and set the gold plate, the sacred diagram, on the front of it, as the Lord commanded Moses. Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it and so consecrated them. He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar in all the two tanninsles and the basin with its stand. To consecrate them, he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to consecrate him. Then he brought Aaron's sons forward, put tunics on them, tied sashes around them and put headbands on them, as the Lord commanded Moses. He then presented the bull for the sin offering and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.

Speaker 2:

Moses slaughtered the bull and took some of the blood and with his finger he put it on all the horns of the altar. To purify the altar, he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar so he consecrated it to make atonement for it. Moses also took all the fat around the inner parts, the covering of the liver and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it on the altar. But the bull with its hide and its flesh and its offal he burned up outside the camp, as Lord commanded Moses. He then presented the ram for the burnt offering and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Then Moses slaughtered the ram and sprinkled the blood against the altar on all sides. He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces and the fat. He washed the inner parts and the legs with water and burned the whole ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the Lord by fire. As the Lord commanded Moses, he then presented the other ram, the ram for the ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.

Speaker 2:

Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron's right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. Moses also brought Aaron's sons forward and put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he sprinkled blood against the altar on all sides. He took the fat, the fat tail, all the fat around the inner parts, the covering of the liver, both kidneys and their fat and the right thigh. Then, from the basket of bread made without yeast which was before the Lord, he took a cake of bread and one made with oil and a wafer. He put these on the fat portions and on the right thigh. He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and waved them before the Lord as a wave offering. Then Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar on top of the burnt offering as an ordination, offering a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the Lord by fire. He also took the breast Moses' share of the ordination ram and waved it before the Lord as a wave offering, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Speaker 2:

Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments and his sons and their garments. Moses then said to Aaron and his sons Cook the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded. Saying, aaron and his sons are to eat it. Then burn up the rest of the meat and the bread. Do not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed, for your ordination will last seven days. What has been done today was commanded by the Lord to make atonement for you. You must stay at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and do what the Lord requires. Know you will not die, for that is what I have been commanded. So Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord commanded through Moses.

Speaker 1:

All right Now the last time we were together we looked at Leviticus six and seven and we looked at the part the priests played in the offering. Today we are focusing on the priests themselves. I have broken this chapter down into six parts. Part number one the priests are called. We see this in verses one through five. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments and the anointing oil and the pool of the sin offering and the two rounds and the basket of unleavened bread, and assemble all the congregation at the doorway of the tent of meeting. So Moses did just as the Lord commanded him. When the congregation was assembled at the doorway of the tent of meeting, moses said to the congregation this is the thing which the Lord has commanded to do. So we see that the Lord speaks to Moses. All the people are at the tent of meeting and now they are getting ready to do the concentration. Part two the priests are cleansed. We see this in verse six. Then Moses had Aaron and his sons come near and wash them with water. This is for Aaron and his sons, the priests. The time for them to be consecrated is here and these are the rules that the Lord gave Moses to follow.

Speaker 1:

Part three the priests are clothed. We see this in verses seven through nine. He put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash and clothed him with the robe and put the ephot on him and he girded him with the artistic band of the ephot with which he tied it to him. He then placed the breast piece on him and in the breast piece he put the urum and the thrum. He also placed the turban on his head and on the turban at his front he placed the golden plate, the holy crown, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Drop down to thirteen. Next, moses and Aaron's sons come near and clothed them with tunis and girded them with sashes and bow caps on them, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. So we see in those verses that they were clothed. These priests had to wear a specific clothing. This wasn't Wake Up On, you know. Wake up today and put on what you want to put on where, what you want to wear. They had to wear specific things that the Lord gave to Moses and Moses gave to the people. Part four the priest property is consecrated. We see this in verses 10 through 12. Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed a tabernacle and all that was in it and consecrated them. And he sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and anointed the altar and all its utensils and the basin and its stands to be consecrated. Then he poured, excuse me, to consecrate them. Then he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to consecrate him. Now, this is how they did it back then. This is how they consecrated and anointed not only the priest but the things that the priest touched.

Speaker 1:

Part five the priests are cleansed and consecrated. This is going to be a lengthy amount of reading, but we're going to do this. Verses 14 through 32. The priests are cleansed and consecrated. Then he brought the bull the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering. Next, moses slaughtered it and took the blood with his finger, put some of it around the horns of the altar and purified the altar. Then he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it to make a torment for it. Remember there was a lot of blood shed that had to be done back in this time. He also took all the fat that was on the entrails, in the lobe of the liver and the two kidneys in their fat, and Moses offered it up in smoke on the altar. But the bull in its hide and its flesh and its refuse he burned in the fire outside the camp, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Remember, following exactly how the Lord told him to do it Verse 18.

Speaker 1:

Then he presented the ram of the burnt offering and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram and Moses slaughtered it and sprinkled the blood around on the altar. When he had cut the ram into its pieces, moses offered up the head and the pieces and the suet in smoke. After he had washed the entrails and the legs with water, moses offered up the whole ram in smoke on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a sooth and aroma. It was an offering by fire to the Lord, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

Speaker 1:

Then he presented the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. Notice that every time one of these sacrifices have to be made that Moses, excuse me, aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the animal Verse 23. And Moses slaughtered it and took some of his blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron's right ear and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. He also had Aaron's sons come near and Moses put some of the blood on the lobe of the right ear and on the right thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. Moses then sprinkled the rest of the blood around on the altar and he took the fat and the fat tail and all the fat that was on the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat and the right thigh. And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord, he took one leavened cake and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer, placed them on the portion of fat and on the right thigh. He then put all these on the hands of Aaron and on the hands of his sons and presented them as a wave offering before the Lord. Then Moses took them from their hands and offered them up in smoke on the altar with the burnt offering. They were in ordination offering for a soothing aroma. It was an offering by fire to the Lord. Moses also took the breast and presented it for a wave offering before the Lord. It was Moses's portion of the ram of ordination, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Notice, just as the Lord commanded Moses. He's following through Verse 30.

Speaker 1:

So Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him, and he consecrated Aaron, his garments and his sons and the garments of his sons with him. Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons boil the flesh at the doorway of the tinneth meeting and eat it there together with the bread which is in the basket of the ordination offering, just as I commanded, saying Aaron and his sons shall eat it and the remainder of the flesh and of the bread you shall burn in the fire. Very, very specific commands that the Lord has given to Moses to pass down to Aaron and his sons for their consecration. We come to part six, the priest's commandments. We see this in verses 31 through 36. Then Moses said to Aaron I know we read, read 31 already, people, but I'd like to back up a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons pour the flesh at the doorway of the tent of Eden and eat it there, together with the bread which is in the basket of the ordination offering, just as I commanded. Saying to Aaron, and his sons shall eat it and the remainder of the flesh of the bread you shall burn in the fire, and you shall not go outside the doorway of the tent of Eden for seven days and to the day that the period of your ordination is fulfilled, for he will ordain you through seven days. This is a seven day period, people. The Lord has commanded to do as he has done this day to make atonement on your behalf at the doorway of the tent of Eden. Moreover, you shall remain day and night for seven days and keep the charge of the Lord that you may not die for. So I have been commanded. Thus, aaron and his sons did all the things which the Lord had commanded through Moses, and of course they had to. They had to follow through everything that the Lord said the way he said it. This is how, in this Old Testament time, in this first covenant, things had to be done.

Speaker 1:
