Speaker 2:

On the eighth day, moses summoned Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. He said, aaron, take a bull calf for your sin offering and a ram for your burnt offering, both without defect, and present them before the Lord. Then say to the Israelites take a male goat for a sin offering, a calf and a lamb, both a year old and without defect, for a burnt offering, and an ox and a ram for a fellowship offering to sacrifice before the Lord, together with a grain offering mixed with oil, for today the Lord will appear to you. They took the things Moses commanded to the front of the tent of meeting and the entire assembly came near and stood before the Lord. Then Moses said this is what the Lord has commanded you to do, so that the glory of the Lord may appear to you. Moses said to Aaron Come to the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering and make atonement for yourself and the people. Sacrifice the offering that is for the people and make atonement for them, as the Lord has commanded. So Aaron came to the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself. His sons brought the blood to him and he dipped his finger into the blood and put it on the horns of the altar. The rest of the blood he poured out at the base of the altar. On the altar he burned the fat, the kidneys and the covering of the liver from the sin offering, as the Lord commanded Moses. The flesh and the hide he burned up outside the camp. Then he slaughtered the burnt offering. His sons handed him the blood and he sprinkled it against the altar on all sides. They handed him the burnt offering piece by piece, including the head, and he burned them on the altar. He washed the inner parts and the legs and burned them on top of the burnt offering on the altar.

Speaker 2:

Aaron then brought the offering that was for the people. He took the goat for the people's sin offering and slaughtered it and offered it for a sin offering, as he did with the first one. He brought the burnt offering and offered it in the prescribed way. He also brought the grain offering, took a handful of it and burned it on the altar. In addition to the morning's burnt offering, he slaughtered the ox and the ram as the fellowship offering for the people. His sons handed him the blood and he sprinkled it against the altar on all sides.

Speaker 2:

The fat portions of the ox and the ram, the fat tail, the layer of fat, the kidneys and the covering of the liver. These they laid on the breasts and then Aaron burned the fat on the altar. Aaron waved the breasts and the right thigh before the Lord as a wave offering, as Moses commanded. Then Aaron lifted his hands toward the people and blessed them and, having sacrificed the sin offering, the burnt offering and the fellowship offering, they stepped down. Moses and Aaron then went into the tent of meeting. When they came out, they blessed the people and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell face down.

Speaker 1:

Now, the last time we were together we looked at the consecration of Aaron and his sons, the priests. Today we look at Aaron offering sacrifices. Now we broke this chapter down into eight parts. Part one Moses calls Aaron and his sons before Israel. Verse one now I came about on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. So we see that Moses is still speaking and Moses has called them before the people. Part two once the priests offer the sin offering, god will show his glory and his power. We see this in verses two through four. He said to Aaron he being Moses, take for yourself a calf, a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without defect, and offer them before the Lord. Then, to the sons of Israel, you shall speak saying take a male goat for a sin offering and a calf and a lamb, both one year old, without defect, for a burnt offering, and an ox and a ram for peace offerings to sacrifice before the Lord, and a grain offering mixed with oil, for today the Lord shall appear to you. So the Lord showing his power and letting them know that this is the day that he will appear before them. Part three this demonstration was done before the people. We see this in verse five. So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of the 10th meeting and the whole congregation came near and stood before the Lord. Notice, the whole congregation came and stood before the Lord.

Speaker 1:

Part four if the priests offered a sin offering for themselves and the people, god will show his glory. We see this in verses six through 11. And Moses said this is the thing which the Lord has commanded you to do, that the glory of the Lord may appear to you. Moses then said to Aaron come near to the altar and offer your sin offering and your burnt offering that you may make a toll made for yourself and for the people. Then make the offering for the people, that you may make a toll made for them, just as the Lord has commanded. So Aaron came near to the altar and slaughtered the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself, and Aaron's sons presented the blood to him and he dipped his finger in the blood and put some on the horns of the altar and poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar, the fat in the kidneys and the lobe of the liver of the sin offering. He then offered up in smoke on the altar, just as the Lord had commanded Moses, the flesh and the sin. However, he burned with fire outside the camp and, as always, the Lord gave very precise details of what had to be followed, and they followed it as such.

Speaker 1:

Part five if the priest offered a burnt offering for themselves and the people, god would show us glory. We see this in verses 12 through 16. Then he slaughtered the burnt offering and Aaron's sons handed the blood to him and he sprinkled it around on the altar. And they handed the burnt offering to him in pieces, with the head, and he offered them up in smoke on the altar. He also washed the entrails and the legs and offered them up in smoke with the burnt offering on the altar. Then he presented the people's offering and took the goat of the sin offering, which was for the people, and slaughtered it and offered it for sin. Like the first, he also presented the burnt offering and offered it according to the ordinance. Very precise things done, exactly as the Lord commanded them to do.

Speaker 1:

Part six if the priest made a grain offering, god would show us power. We see this in verse 17. Next, he presented the green offering and filled his hand with some of it and offered it up in smoke on the altar. Besides the burnt offering of the morning, all these things have to be done at the way the Lord wanted them done for the Lord to show his glory. We move on to part seven and we see the priests were to make a peace offering and the Lord would show his glory Verses 18 through 21. Then he slaughtered the ox and the ram, the sacrifice of peace offerings which was for the people, and Aaron's sons handed the blood to him and he sprinkled it around on the altar. As for the portions of fat from the ox and from the ram, the fat tail and the fat covering and the kidneys and the lower liver, they now placed the portions of fat on the breast and he offered them up and smoke on the altar. But the breast and the right thigh Aaron presented as a wave offering before the Lord, just as Moses had commanded.

Speaker 1:

Then we move to part eight.

Speaker 1:

Once the priests obey God, he did show his power and glory.

Speaker 1:

We see this in verses 22 through 24.

Speaker 1:

Then Aaron lifted up his hands towards the people and blessed them and he stepped down after making the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. See, this is what we've been talking about the whole time when I said the Lord would show his glory Verse 23 again, moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. Then fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces. Now, this was a time when the Lord really showed himself to his people, and not only Moses, aaron and his son saw this, but all the people saw these things. They saw these miracles, they saw these wonders that the Lord presented to them, and that's why it says in the end that people fell on their faces, because not only did they witness the sacrifice of these animals from Aaron and his sons, but the fire came out before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering we saw in verse 24. So that means that the fire of the Lord came down and did this and the people saw it with their own eyes.
