Speaker 1:The title of today's lesson is offerings of the leaders. Now, the last time we were together, we looked at the Nazarite laws. Today we are looking at the second longest chapter in the Bible, in Numbers, chapter 7, with the longest being Psalm 119. In this chapter, we are looking at the leader's offerings. We will break this chapter down into four parts. Now, as always, we will bring up the reader and he will read the chapter. Now, as I just mentioned a few seconds ago, this is the second longest chapter in the bible, so it is quite a bit of reading. It is 89 verses.
Speaker 1:Now, I contemplated whether I was just going to go right into the lesson and read as I went along, but I think that it would do you good to hear the reader come up and he will read the whole chapter to you and, as always, we will get right into the lesson. So what you can do for this one is is open it up and follow along with the reader and, when he's done, hit the pause button. Grab your water, grab your tea, grab your coffee, grab your drink and come back in. And we will break down this lesson into four parts Numbers, chapter 7. Let's read.
Speaker 2:Numbers 7. When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed it and consecrated it in all its furnishings. He also anointed and consecrated the altar and all its utensils. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of families who were the tribal leaders in charge of those who were counted, made offerings. They brought as their gifts before the Lord six covered carts and twelve oxen, an ox from each leader and a cart from every two. These they presented before the tabernacle. The Lord said to Moses Accept these from them, that they may be used in the work at the tent of meeting. Give them to the Levites, as each man's work requires. So Moses took the carts and oxen and gave them to the Levites. He gave two carts and four oxen to the Gershonites as their work required, and he gave four carts and eight oxen to the Marites as their work required. Speaker 1:All right, welcome back. Thank you for hanging in there on that one. Now, as I mentioned, we are going to break this long chapter down into four parts. Number one the furnishings in the tabernacle and the tabernacle itself were anointed and consecrated by Moses. Notice verse one. Now, it came about on the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle. He anointed it and consecrated it with all his furnishings and the altar and all his utensils. He anointed them and consecrated them. So we see who the Lord put in charge of anointing and consecrating the things Excuse me, people, the things in the tabernacle, but it was Moses. Moses anointed the furnishings, the altar, the utensils and everything else in the tabernacle. Now we move on to the second part. The offerings of dedication were brought by the people. Now, this is going to be quite a bit. So this is verses two through 83. Now we will break this, these 82 verses, down into two parts. In verses two to 11, the leaders bring in the offerings Verse two. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers households, made an offering. They were the leaders of the tribes, they were their fathers' households made an offering. They were the leaders of the tribes, they were the ones who were over the numbered men when they brought their offering before the Lord, six covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders and an ox for each one. Then they presented them before the tabernacle. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying Accept these things from them that they may be used in the service of to Moses, saying to the sons of Gershon, according to their service, and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the direction of Ithamar, the son of Aaron, the priest. But he did not give any to the sons of Kohoth, because theirs was the service of the holy objects which they carried on the shoulders. And the leaders offered the dedication offering for the altar when it was anointed. So the leaders offered their offering before the altar. Then the Lord said to Moses let them present their offering, one leader each day for the dedication of the altar. Speaker 1:Then we get to the fourth part. The dedication was accepted by God. Then he speaks to Moses, verse 89. To the fourth part. The dedication was accepted by god. Then he speaks to moses, verse 89. Now, when moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with him, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim, and he spoke to him. Who was the? Who was the hymn? The first hymn is god. God is speaking to moses, moses goes in and the lord is speaking to god, and I'm sure that the lord was commending moses with the leaders bringing in this great bounty of a sacrifice. It was. It was a beautiful offering. Nobody held back, and this scripture tells us that they all brought in their best for the lord.
