SPEAKER_01:

Now, the last time we were together, we looked at the laws of offerings. Today we are looking at more offerings, but these pertain to the seventh month. Now there were three moments of sacrifice in this chapter, and that's how we're going to break this down. We're going to break down this offerings of seven months into three sections. Section one, the feast of trumpets. We see this in verses one through six. Now in the seventh month, and on the first day of the month, so it's letting us know where we are and when we are. The seventh month on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation. You shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets. And you shall offer a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to the Lord, one bull, one ram, and seven male lambs, one year old, without defect. Also, their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths of an ephi for the bull, two tenths for the ram, and one tenth for each of the seven lambs. And offer one male goat for a sin offering to make atonement for you. Besides the burnt offering of the new moon and his grain offering, and the continual burnt offering and his grain offering and their libations according to their ordinance for a soothing aroma and offering by fire to the Lord. Now I think it is helpful to look at the Jewish calendar to compare it to our own, to have an idea on the time of year that these things had happened. Because sometimes I think that, depending on where you are, as I mentioned to a lot of you before, I'm in North America, and depending on where you are, I think sometimes we kind of think about our times and our lifestyles, our calendars, our days. And when you're reading scripture, you kind of want to compare it, but we have to remember that this was a different time and this was in a whole different land. So I think it's good to look at the the Jewish calendar and kind of compare it to us. That way, when you are looking at these things, you can say, okay, that would have been August in our time, or it would have been here in this time. Because remember, the scriptures that are written here, they are comparing everything to their time. So let's look at the 12 months of the Jewish calendar. Now, month one is Nisan or Abed, which is our months March through April. So that gives you an idea of when the first month is on the Jewish calendar. Their new year would start in March. Ours starts in January. Month two was Yazar, which is our months of April through May. Month three, Saivan, our months of May through June. Month four, Tammuz, our months of June through July. Month five, Ab, our months of July through August. Month six, Elel, our months of August through September. Month seven, Tiz Rai, or Athanim, that would be our months of September through October. Month eight, uh Marsh Van or Bual, our months of October through November. Month nine, Shizlev, our months of November to December, which is where we are right now as I'm recording this. Month 10, Tibet, our months of December through January. Month 11, Shabbat, our months of January through February. And then months 12 is Adar, our months of February through March. So what that just did was sorry, that gives us an idea of the months that they are in as opposed to the months that we are in. Now we will move to part two, which is the day of atonement. We see this in verses 7 through 11. Then on the tenth day of this seventh month, you shall have a holy convocation and you shall humble yourselves. You shall do I'm excuse me, you shall not do any work. And you shall present a burnt offering to the Lord as a soothing aroma. One bull, one ram, seven male lambs, one year old, having them without defect. And their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths of an ephar for the bull, two tenths for the one ram, a tenth for each of the seven lambs, one male goat for a sin offering, besides the sin offering of atonement, and a continual burnt offering and his grain offering and their libations. Now, you know, I would like to point out something in verse eight. Let me go back to verse eight. And you shall present a burnt offering to the Lord as a soothing aroma, one bull, one ram, seven male lambs, one year old having them without defect. Now, I really want to look at and focus on defect. These offerings that were given there were supposed to be given without defect. So I have said this a lot of times that when the Lord wants you to give something, he wants you to give your best. Not your second best, not your third best, not your fifth best, but your best. So he wants these animals without defect. One bull, one ram, seven male lambs, one year old. They had to be one year old and no defect. They had to be pretty much the healthiest of what you had, the best of what you had. No limp, nose, uh lazy eye, swollen eye, you know, one eye, uh, you know, three legs instead of four. But he wanted your best. And I want to point that out. Now, Peter does make mentions of this in his first epistle. Hold your fingers right here and go to the New Testament and go to First Peter. And we can look at this in the in the New Testament. All right, I'm there. So we are looking at 1 Peter. Sorry about that, I was I was almost there. Okay. 1 Peter, we are looking at 1 Peter chapter 1, verses 18 to 19. Knowing that you were not redeemed without perishable things like silver or gold from your feudal way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. Now, this is how that ties in. Peter is reminding the people of the past of how they did things. They had to offer uh these animals that were gonna give their blood, they had to be without defect. And Peter is saying that in this time we had an unblemished lamb. That unblemished lamb was the blood of Christ. Which brings us back to Numbers chapter 29, and we're looking at the third part, which is the Feast of Tabernacles. And we're gonna look at this starting back at verse 12, all the way to the end, which is verse 34. Feast of tabernacles. Then on the 15th day of the seventh month, same month, you shall have a holy convocation, you shall do no laborious work, and you shall observe a feast to the Lord for seven days, and you shall present a burnt offering, an offering of fire, by a soothing aroma to the Lord, thirteen bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old, which are without defect. There we go again, without defect. And their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two tenths for each of the two rams, and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs, and one male goat for a scent offering, besides a continual burnt offering, is grain offering and its libation. Then on the second day, twelve bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old without defect, and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance, and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, and his grain offering and their libations. Then on the third day, eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old, without defect. There we go again without defect, and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs by their number according to the ordinance. One male lamb go for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, and his grain offering and his libation. So this is besides that. Then on the fourth day, ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old without defect. They green offered and their libations for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number according to the ordinance. And one male goat for a sin offering, besides a continual burnt offering, is grain offering and its libation. Then on the fifth day, nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old, without defect. And their grain offering and their libations for the bulls. For the rams, and for the lambs by their number according to the ordinance. And one male goat for a sin offering, besides a continual burnt offering, and his grain offering and his libation. Then on the sixth day, eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old without defect. And their grain offering and their libation for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs by their number according to the ordinance. And one male go for a sin offering besides a continual burnt offering, his grain offering and his libations. Now remember, they're doing all this besides what they already had to do. Then on the seventh day, seven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs, one year old without defect, and their grain offering and their libations for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs by their number according to the ordinance. And one male goat for a sin offerings, besides a continual burnt offering, his grain offering and its libation. On the eighth day, you shall have a solemn assembly. You shall do no laborious work. But you shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to the Lord, one bull, one ram, seven male lambs, one year old without defect. Their grain offerings and their libation for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs by their number according to the ordinance. And one male goat for a sin offering besides a continual burnt offering and his grain offering and his libation. You shall present these to the Lord at their appointed times, besides your volatile offerings, and their free will offerings, and for burnt offerings, and for grain offerings, and for libations, and for your peace offerings. And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel in accordance with all that the Lord had commanded Moses. Sorry about that. I think I said verses 12 through 34. I really meant 12 through 40, which was the end of it. Now I gotta tell you something. Going through these laws in the book of Numbers, looking at what the Israelites had to do in that time, don't you think the Lord every day that the Lord Jesus Christ came into this world and he became our offering, our final offering, he became uh he became our sacrifice, the last lamb that had to be sacrificed. Because if he didn't, now I'm not saying for us Gentiles, but Israel would still be doing this stuff to this day. I think the Lord that over here uh where I'm at, we don't have to do all of these sacrifices, all of these animals, you know, the scapegoat and all these different offerings, but we can go directly to the Lord Himself and ask to be forgiven. We can ask for his guidance, we can ask for his mercy, we can ask for his peace to be put upon us because he is the mediator between us and the Father. Who? The man Christ Jesus. When he when he died on that cross and he said it is finished, there was an earthquake that broke the veil from top to bottom, which was uh in the Holy of Holies, which was symbolic that now there is nothing between man and God. It's time to be reconciled back with the Father, something that the Lord Himself promised back in Genesis chapter 3. All right, that brings us to the end of Numbers chapter 29. As always, I hope that you got something out of this lesson. I hope that you learned something. And as always, I thank you for joining me. I appreciate you all greatly.
